Meeting Name
Nearly one hundred women who worked as cheerleaders for the Oakland Raiders were paid less than minimum wage; over four thousand Minor League Baseball players are in need of financial assistance. Although some celebrity-athletes make millions, many more professional athletes are subject to wage theft and other forms of exploitation by their employers, including the expectation that athletes pay out of pocket for their equipment and housing while traveling. These issues will be explored by panelists Jeremy Wolf, a former baseball player and founder of the nonprofit More Than Baseball; Ben Shiftan, who is currently litigating on behalf of Minor League Baseball players who are not paid minimum wage; and Sharon Vinick, who won a $1.25 million settlement for the Raiderettes cheerleaders. National Labor Relations Board attorney and Berkeley Law alum Coreen Kopper will moderate.
