Meeting Name
College sports programs generate enormous profits for educational institutions through advertising, sponsorships, media buys, and ticket sales. But how much of this revenue goes to the studentathletes whose labor produces it? Moreover, are student-athletes adequately protected from harassment and abuse if they are not covered by employment laws? Join panelists Jerry Cimmet and John Kelson, who litigated a class action against the NCAA and the Pac-12 for failure to pay players wages and overtime; Professor Michael LeRoy, an expert on antitrust and collective bargaining at the college sports level; Andrew Baker, an experienced National Labor Relations Board attorney; and Betsy Manifold who will give audience members a hopeful look to the future discussing O'Bannon v. NCAA, for a conversation on the labor and employment issues that arise in college athletics. Rachel Terp, employment attorney and Berkeley Law alum, will moderate.
